Laparoscopic Surgery - What Exactly Is It And Things To Know About It

Posted on 30 August, 2021 by Qmedic Healthcare

Have you heard the term laparoscopic surgery and wondering what it's about? This has been thought about by many people that are new to the concept of surgical operations that are performed with tiny surgical instruments, and also those that have heard of the concept but have no working knowledge of the technical term for this surgery. Laparoscopic surgery is quite often referred to as keyhole surgery, which is pretty accurate in its description of what the surgery is about. The idea behind laparoscopic surgery is centered around the concept of making just a tiny incision into the skin to perform operations. The benefits derived from this minimal invasive procedure include faster recovery time, and less scarring for the patient.

What is surprising is that most of the people that are knowledgable of this concept and type of operation are not aware that its origins can be traced back to the early twentieth century. You have to go back to the early 1900's to find the development of the earliest techniques of what would become known as laparoscopic surgery. In the year 1902, the very first experiment in the field was carried out on dogs. In these early days of practicing the procedure, the surgeon was severely limited to what he could see and as a result success was limited. Progress in refining the technique was very slow in coming. It was not until eight more years that the very first laparoscopic operation could be performed with a measure of safely on a human being. Qmedic

Besides asking the question of what is laparoscopic surgery, lots of people are interested in knowing what conditions it can be used to treat. The answer to that question is an increasing number of abdominal conditions can now be treated with it. In the early developmental days of the technology, there were severe limitations placed on the procedure because of the physician's limitations of what he could see inside the body. The treatment of all else except for the larger organs of the body was quite impossible. When operating on the larger organs, these organs were under general anesthesia. The only conditions that could be treated with this method were colon and bowel disease. Things are very different today. Laparoscopic surgery is used to treat just about anything today, and that includes cancer. The big difference in treatment capabilities is due to improvements in what the surgeon is able to see thanks to the wonders of electronics. Harmonic Vessel Sealing malaysia

Laparoscopic surgery to this day, is still being performed on animals. This is so although not for the same reasons they were in those early experiments that were performed in the early twentieth century. Because today's instruments used in modern operations are so tiny, and with the use of electronics making the technique so accurate, it is now possible to perform the surgery on small animals that would have been a lot more difficult otherwise to operate on if it wasn't for this procedure. The surgery is even used to save the eggs of a dying mother so that her child can be saved. Operation Theatre Sharp Management malaysia

As laparoscopic surgery continues to improve into the twenty first century, this will undoubtedly become a very important procedure of laparoscopic surgery. This can be used to save endangered species from disappearing. Certain species of tortoise are being saved from extinction by use of this method and techniques. Tortoises are known to produce a huge number of eggs, because very few of the young will be able to survive in their harse environment. By the use of artificial means to hatch the eggs and the raising of the young under a controlled environment that would eliminate the threat from predators, the species can be given a fighting chance of survival.
