Shroom Tea and What It May Do for Your Health

Shroom Tea and What It May Do for Your Health

You may be eating mushrooms on a wok or salad, but how about drinking shroom tea? If you're using Instagram, you've probably noticed a trend in mushroom tea that's gaining popularity in circles of celebrities and people who affect your health.

But why are people talking about this tea now? Christy Brissette of RDN, founder of Chicago-based 80 Twenty Nutrition, said:

Mushrooms have long been known for their medicinal properties in oriental medicine. “They have been used in ancient times, but modern research is now beginning to scrutinize more,” says Bresset. So if more celebrities like Gwyneth Paltrow and health enthusiasts are looking for foods with potential health benefits, it's no wonder mushrooms spend their moments.

“These will be new superfoods and will also help improve the taste of some beverages,” said Mascha Davis of RDN, MPH, founder of Los Angeles-based Nomadista Nutrition.

But this tea has more than you think-what's in the drink (hint: considered a supplement, not food), whether you're healthy, a cup for your morning meal Check out the afternoon routine to see if you need to add it.

Mushroom tea may seem like just soaking the mushrooms you bought at the supermarket in hot water, but it's often not the case. “Powder is different from the mushrooms found in supermarkets because it's a concentrated extract, not a fresh food,” says Davis.

In fact, tea is more commonly sold as a blend, says Bresset. “Usually it's an herbal supplement, not a food, because it's a powerful mushroom extract mixed with some tea, such as green tea,” explains Brissette. If you don't like tea, you can also buy a mushroom coffee blend. This is how Brest is usually taken with unsweetened vanilla almond milk.
