Tips for Packing When Moving Your House

Posted on 23 November, 2021 by Quick and Easy Moving

So, you have hired the Movers Burnaby for your house move. You are done with all the moving arrangements, now only packing is left. Packing is often an exciting task until you have the entire house to pack. The electrical appliances, crockery, toiletries, your closet, and other delicate items need to be packed in sturdy boxes.

Packing is not easy, especially when you are having a hard time deciding where to start and which items should go where. We’ve compiled a list of tips for making packing easier for you. Let’s check them out.

Find the Right Boxes

First things first, you should order the boxes for packing. These are not ordinary containers, instead, you need separate boxes that can house your home appliances and other household accessories. Crates are a better alternative to cardboard boxes, but they are mostly available on rent. Before you take out your stuff, find the appropriate boxes.

Label Each Box

Labelling makes unpacking a whole lot easier after you arrive at your new home. Make sure you pack these boxes according to the label. For example, if you want to keep your fancy dresses and regular wear outfits separately, label each box with the type of clothes you have packed in them. Stick a label on the side and top of the box to recognize them easily after the move.

Pack the Items You Don’t Use Often First

Start with the items you do not use on a regular basis. For example, start with the top floors and then work your way to the ground floor. You can pack the Christmas accessories, lawnmowers, garden accessories, and other seasonal products that you are not using currently. It is also the perfect time to sort through your home appliances and decide which one needs to be kept or donated to the charity.

Pack one Category of Items at a Time

Now you have decided the number of categories you’d like to divide your home appliances into, pack one category at a time. For example, you can start with the kitchen appliances first, then the wardrobe, decorative items, and pack your toiletries at last. You can decide the order according to your convenience, but don’t burden yourself. Pack one thing at a time, as it will be easier that way. Plus, it allows you to organize everything seamlessly.

Do Not Overstuff the Packing Boxes

Sure, you have gotten crates and the sturdiest boxes for your house move. That, however, doesn’t mean you can overstuff each box. Set a maximum weight limit and make sure you stick to it. Get more boxes if necessary, but never overstuff. The last thing you want is these boxes to break into two pieces. The plastic or cardboard boxes are not designed to handle excess weight. Keep the weight limited to 30 pounds or more depending on the size and quality of these containers.

These were a few tips for all homeowners planning to move their house to a new place. Hire long distance movers in Burnaby and make moving a hassle-free task. Good luck moving your house!
